The aspiration of the Allentown Hiking Club is to escape the crowded city;
to walk, hike and climb for the enjoyment and exercise with nature loving companions;
to maintain its section of the Appalachian Trail; and to stimulate public interests
in every phase of nature and the outdoors through programs and lectures. |

Our mission is to ensure that future generations will enjoy the clean air and water, scenic vistas, wildlife and opportunities for simple recreation and renewal along the entire Trail corridor. |
Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor URL: http://www.delawareandlehigh.org The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor was first recognized by U.S. Congress in 1988 for its important history and rich and distinctive cultural and natural resources. The Corridor showcases the Delaware, Lehigh and Wyoming Valleys where anthracite coal was discovered, canals were built and iron first poured.
Today, extraordinary natural, cultural and recreational resources give us a living "national park" where people live, work and share the responsibility of keeping it special.

Ironton Rail Trail URL: http://www.irontonrailtrail.org/ The former Ironton Railroad has been transformed to provide a safe, year-round recreational opportunity for local residents and visitors. A part of the Rails-to-Trails movement sweeping the nation, the Ironton Rail-Trail was developed by the municipalities of Whitehall, Coplay, and North Whitehall. Located in the Lehigh Valley, this regional spur of the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor is one of most popular multi-use trails in the area. |

Highlands Coalition URL: http://www.highlandscoalition.org/ The Highlands Coalition, established in 1988, seeks to protect and enhance the sustainability of natural and human communities in the Highlands region of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. At a regional level, we work to secure federal and state funding for land protection in the Highlands and to foster more regional approaches to planning for and managing growth. At the local level, members of the Highlands Coalition contribute to efforts to fend off inappropriate development projects that threaten important Highlands resources and work with planning boards and community groups to understand the values of the Highlands and incorporate them into their decision making. The Coalition is comprised of more than 150 local, state, regional and national conservation organizations. |

Wildlands Conservancy URL: http://www.wildlandspa.org/ Since 1973, Wildlands Conservancy has been working to protect and enhance the quality of place that we all enjoy here in the Lehigh River watershed, as well as elsewhere in eastern Pennsylvania. As a non-profit, member-supported organization, we work on ways to protect water quality throughout the watershed, and we assist efforts to create, enhance, maintain, and promote parks and trails. We have protected more than 40,000 acres of critical farmland and wildlands in eastern Pennsylvania. We also foster responsible stewardship of our resources through education of our youth and by raising the environmental awareness of the general public. |
