This is a very challenging hike due to distance and rocky terrain.  We will begin at Fort Franklin Rd at 9 am and travel south on the AT until we reach Hawk Mountain Rd, passing by the Allentown Shelter, Tricounty Corner, Balanced Rocks, and Dan's Pulpit along our way.  There are some smaller ups and downs followed by a long downhill stretch after Dan's Pulpit.  The overall elevation gain is just over 1000' and descent is around 1700'.  There will be some significant uneven and rocky sections that need to be traversed.  Footwear with good traction and trekking poles/hiking stick recommended.  Bring plenty of water (2+ L), electrolytes, snacks/lunch, bug spray because ticks are still out.  Blaze orange hat/clothing is required as archery season is underway.  This is a shuttle hike so we will have a few vehicles pre-positioned at our endpoint to get us back to Fort Franklin Road parking afterward.  My goal is to complete the hike by 2:30 pm and have us back to our cars by 3:00, but that will ultimately depend upon speed of the group.

**Please sign up for this hike either via meetup or by texting Heidi at 703-402-1057 as a head count is needed for shuttling purposes.  Additionally, if you are able to meet me early at the Hawk Mountain Road intersection and help with shuttling please let me know.

Maintenance tasks include clearing the 1/4 mile access trail from the D&L Trail to the lock, clearing vegetation from the capstones and inside the lock, and removing invasive plants. If we have time and manpower, we will also hike the 1/2 mile to the Coalport Weigh Lock and clear that trail and lock. Please bring tools such as garden rakes, garden trowels, loppers or clippers, gloves, lunch and water. We will finish by 2 pm. Rain on the morning of the event will cancel the trip.

This loop hike will circle the Green Lane Reservoir, affording views of both the lake and countryside. Total elevation gain is just over 1,000'. There will be several short climbs and stream crossings. Sturdy hiking boots are recommended. Bring a least 2L of water and lunch / snacks. Steady rain cancels.

This challenging point to point shuttle hike will set out from the Bethel Rd (183) state game lands parking area and head south on the AT, crossing over Rt 501 and ending at Rt 645.  There will be a couple of viewpoints along the way.  Expect rocky and uneven terrain in areas, as well as around 1600' of elevation gain and another 1600' of descent.    Footwear with good traction and blaze orange hat and vest or jacket required since we will be passing alongside state gamelands.  Poles or hiking stick recommended.  Bring 2 L of water + electrolytes, snacks/trail lunch.

**Please sign up on meetup or by texting Heidi at 703-402-1057 so that I have a head count for shuttling purposes.  If you are able to help with shuttling by meeting me ahead of time at 645 please let me know.

The goal is to complete this hike by 3pm and be back to our cars about 30 minutes after finishing.

NOTE: START TIME FOR THIS EVENT IS 6:30

This scenic, point-to-point adventure offers impressive views as we descend toward the river, ending at the legendary Doyle Hotel—a familiar landmark in Appalachian Trail lore.

We will be meeting at the Doyle Hotel and volunteers will shuttle hikers back to the Cove Mountain Parking Lot in Marysville.

After the hike, join fellow hikers for an optional late lunch and a chance to relax and swap trail stories.

Expect very rocky footing; sturdy hiking footwear is essential. Bring snacks, a trail lunch, and plenty of water to stay fueled and hydrated along the way. The hike will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
